The practice of YogAlign encourages optimal postural alignment using a combination of breath work, focused muscular release, self massage techniques, PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) and naturally aligned opening body positions help to retrain the body to move with less effort. The practice uses painless and safe body positions and poses combined with unique breath techniques that tone the core and align posture from the inside out. Self massage is used to stimulate blood flow, nourish tissues and increase kinesthetic awareness. The focus is on releasing the fascial connective tissue web - a major determinant of our posture, movement and even our moods. Through this practice you can gain full body flexibility and strength balance techniques that simultaneously increase efficiency of muscle chains and functional Range of Movement (ROM).
YogAlign was developed by Michelle Edwards, a longtime yogini, who was experiencing progressively worse injuries and pain in her committed yoga practise. Michelle developed YogAlign with the intention of giving the practitioner the skills to encourage the body’s own self-healing abilities.
The YogAlign practice activates the psoas/diaphragm connection for core centred movement, enhancing the breath, organ support and emotional balance. You begin to change postural habits at the nervous system level, creating a new balanced and aligned posture through body awareness.
During a YogAlign class you will learn how to:
· bring your body into its natural alignment using your breath
· release body tension instantly yourself
· naturally increase your energy levels
· create new flexibility
· create natural core strength activated with your breath
· learn how to tone, balance and strengthen your whole body in each movement.
